LELAND (News Release) — The Town of Leland invites residents and guests to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with family fun, for everyone. Here are a few ways how.
Help the Leland Police Department and Leland Fire/Rescue ‘Pack the Patrol Car’ on December 1st from 10 am to 3pm at the Leland Walmart. Nonperishable food items and new unwrapped toys for children ages twelve and under will be collected and donated to Brunswick Family Assistance.
Join the Town for the annual lighting of the Leland Tree on December 2nd from 6 to 8pm on the Town Hall Plaza, located at 102 Town Hall Drive. Help Santa light the tree, visit with Saint Nick himself, take a train ride on the Leland Express, and enjoy local food trucks. Town Hall Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic between Village Road and Old Fayetteville Road from 5 to 8:30pm. Free parking will be available at First Baptist Church of Leland, located at 517 Village Road NE, with a free shuttle beginning at 5:30pm.
Due to Founders Park renovations, Leland in Lights will be scaled back this year, featuring lights only at Town Hall and other Town facilities. The lights will be illuminated at dusk every evening through January 2nd.
Also on December 2nd, don’t miss the popular Holiday Art Market from 10am to 3pm at the Leland Cultural Arts Center (LCAC), located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way. The free event features handmade gifts from around forty vendors.
Santa is heading to the LCAC for two special events: Cookies with Santa on December 6th at 6:30pm and Breakfast with Santa on December 13th at 9:30am. Registration is required for both events, which will feature holiday treats, crafts, and story time. Register online for the Cookies with Santa wait list. Breakfast with Santa registration is available online or in person at the LCAC.
Swing into the holidays with Wilmington Big Band and guest vocalist Lauren Meehan on December 8th from 7 to 9pm at the LCAC. Wilmington Big Band will be playing holiday classics and big band favorites all night. Tickets are $15 and available online or at the LCAC.
Finally, sensory friendly visits with Santa will be offered on December 16th from 12 to 2:30pm at the LCAC. Children with specific needs can enjoy the time-honored tradition of visiting Santa in a subdued and calm environment. Registration is required for this free event and available online.
